Participate
There are many ways to participate in the life of our ward, neighborhood, and city. In addition to voting and getting involved in projects, you can join a neighborhood group or a city board or commission, identify problem spots near you, propose improvements to your street, and apply to work for the City of New Haven. Here are some places to start.
Fair Haven Community Management Team
Join our neighbors for a discussion of neighborhood projects and reports from city departments. The Team meets on the first Thursday of every month at 6PM at the Fair Haven Library, 182 Grand, and on Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/4475172271.
Contact: Co-Chairs Liz Tyghter De Velasquez and Lee Cruz, fairhavencmt@gmail.com
Chatham Square Neighborhood Association
Collaborate with our neighbors on special projects such as Quinnipiac Riverfest, learn about events inside and outside our neighborhood on the events calendar, and find support for new ideas.

The City of New Haven has over 45 volunteer Boards and Commissions, which support and guide its work – including the Board of Education, the Board of Ethics, the Police Commission, the Commission on Disabilities, the Civilian Review Board, the Food Policy Council, the Historic District Commission, among many others. See full list here and application here. Serving on a Board or Commission is a great way to advance the issues and causes that you care about.

Identify Neighborhood Problem Spots
A clean and well-maintained neighborhood supports everyone’s quality of life. The city charter obligates property owners to keep their front and back yards clean and clear of debris. If there are poorly maintained private properties, alleyways, or public spaces near you, please report it to the SeeClickFix app or website. In addition to garbage and dumping, you can report sidewalk damage, potholes, damaged park equipment, and trees in need of trimming. Many city departments build their work lists from SeeClickFix tickets. So if you see something, please report it so that it can be addressed as soon as possible.

Get Outside
One of the best ways to get involved in our community is to get outside, enjoy our neighborhood’s resources and assets, meet our neighbors, and keep an eye on problem areas. You can enjoy our beautiful parks, follow the Fair Haven Walking Trail’s green arrows, or chart your own path.
Check In With Your Alder
Alder Miller holds monthly office hours at the Fair Haven Branch of our New Haven Free Public Library on the first Saturday of each month from 10-11AM. Please stop by with your questions, concerns, and ideas about our neighborhood and city - or reach out via email ward14@newhavenct.gov or cell 203.675.9516.
